A bumper movement is still wound by a weight within the watch movement, but unlike today's automatics, this weight doesn't showcase a free movement and only swings almost in a back and forth motion. The initial concept was supposedly inspired by a 'seesaw'.

The Submariner 16800 also became the first models to sport the Sapphire Crystal, replacing the Acrylic Crystals used previously. This collection of Rolex initially launched in 1979.
